Councilors' congress on May 10

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Thousands of councilors-delegates from all over the country will troop in Cebu for the Visayas Island Congress on May 10 to 12.

The Philippine Councilor’s League-Cebu Province will host the three-day congress which will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center and will bear the theme: “Promoting Local Economy by Protecting Environment.”

Instead of joining their respective island congresses this year, Provincial Board Member Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, PCL-Cebu president, said her counterparts in Luzon and Minda-nao have committed to head to the Visayas PCL Congress.

The highlight of the congress is the benchmarking tour in Camotes Island on the second day for the participants to observe by themselves the best practices of their co-legislators.

However, with the expected volume of councilor-delegates from around the country, they will have to offer alternative benchmarking activity in the mainland, which will be the heritage trail to the south as suggested by the Provincial Heritage and Tourism Office.

Meca said delegates who would like to witness the dance performances of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center inmates will also be accommodated.

With the huge delegation from Luzon and Mindanao, Meca said this only proves that Cebu has something to offer. They will also visit the towns of Poro, Tudela, and San Francisco.
