Osmeña: BOPK quiet but faster, doesn't need fun runs to win polls

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City South District Representative Tomas Osmeña said that the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) do not need to stage fun runs to win in the elections.

He said that BOPK, ever since, has always been working underground which is where they move quietly but faster.

As if taunting, Osmeña said that Team Rama, the group formed by his successor after leaving BOPK, specializes in “blocktimers” and “columnists”.

He added that Team Rama is a group of rejects. Osmeña was referring to those who now belong to Mayor Michael Rama’s slate but used to be members of the opposition party Kugi Uswag Sugbu (KUSUG) who ran and lost during the last elections.

Osmeña even said he owes it to the Sto. Niño, who kept giving them “unworthy opponents.”

Osmeña said this after Team Rama held a fun run to join the Labor Day celebrations last Tuesday.

Team Rama, together with some city hall employees, on Tuesday sponsored a dawn Mass at the Sto. Rosario Church and held a fun run afterwards from the church to Fuente Osmeña Circle, to the Cebu City Sports Center where a jobs fair was held.

Rama admitted that they did it to let the people know that there is a Team Rama since the other party (BOPK) has also started moving.

Team Rama has not announced its complete slate but has already floated several names as early as March.

Meanwhile, Osmeña said that developments in Cebu City given the current urban pattern, must be introduced in the downtown area instead of uptown.

He said that instead of constructing a mall where the Ciudad Project is proposed, and add to the worsening traffic in the area, it must be put downtown which needs more rejuvenating.

“Why go somewhere where you will cut trees and clog the traffic?” Osmeña said.

In another development, The Filinvest Land Incorporated is reportedly interested to buy another 10 hectares lot located at the South Road Properties.

A Cebu City official said FLI officers told Mayor Michael Rama about the plan in a recent visit.

FLI bought 10 hectares of SRP lot from the City Government while developing 40 hectares under a Joint Venture Agreement with the city government. — (FREEMAN)
