CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is supporting the move to institutionalize the Suroy Suroy Sugbo, a tourism program of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
CCCI president Prudencio Gesta declared his support to institutionalize the program after joining the Suroy Suroy Sugbo in Camotes Island over the weekend.
There is now a pending ordinance in the Provincial Board seeking for the institutionalization of Suroy Suroy Sugbo. The proposed ordinance is sponsored by Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy, who himself experienced the activity in Camotes Island for the first time.
Garcia appreciates Sitoy for making the first move and in participating the activity.
“I think after joining us he (Sitoy) would even have a deeper appreciation, perhaps a passion, love for the Suroy Suroy,” Garcia said.
Gesta is hoping Sitoy’s ordinance be approved and Suroy Suroy will become a yearly activity of the province.
“We are more than proud to support that ordinance because that will institutionalize Suroy Suroy even without her (Gov. Garcia) in the position this will now become an institution,” Gesta said.
The Province of Cebu earlier partnered with CCCI in the conceptualization on how to improve tourism activity outside Metro Cebu.
Gesta said the Suroy Suroy has created a tourism culture in the locality, a very important component to improve tourism activities outside Metro Cebu.
The institutionalization of Suroy Suroy is being pushed because Garcia is on her last term.
Gesta assured that whoever is the next governor, the CCCI will continue to support the program having been part in the conceptualization. — (FREEMAN)
