CEBU, Philippines - The Police Regional Office (PRO) – 7 has meted a ten-day suspension to former Talisay City Police Chief Supt. Henry Biñas after finding him guilty of minor misconduct for harassing a news correspondent from another daily.
Biñas confirmed yesterday that he was found guilty for harassing the reporter and has known of PRO-7’s decision last month yet.
He was informed by his legal counsel Neil Nuñez of PRO-7’s decision but they have yet to receive PRO-7’s notice for his suspension on the matter.
“I will respect PRO-7’s discussion on my case. But I maintain my innocence that I did not harass her,” he said.
Biñas said what he did to the reporter last year was merely a friendly act, with no malicious intent to harass her.
In her affidavit, the reporter said that Biñas allegedly pulled her close, placed his hand on her breast and attempted to kiss her on the cheek.
In support to the lady reporter’s complaint, the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists (CFBJ) passed a resolution urging the Philippine National Police to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter.—(FREEMAN)
