Drunk Libyan national arrested

CEBU, Philippines - A Libyan national was arrested by the police after he allegedly went amok and harassed a woman inside a bar at General Maxilom Ave., Cebu City.

Ahmed Geryani, 23, who is studying the English language in Cebu, was arrested by beat patrol policemen and elements from the Cebu City Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) at around 3 a.m.

This was after a 24-year-old woman sought help from the bar’s personnel after she was allegedly harassed by the drunk Geryani. She told The FREEMAN that she entered the bar at around 2:30 a.m. with three female companions. Minutes later, she noticed Geryani staring at her, which she just ignored.

While enjoying drinks with her friends, two Korean nationals approached their table and asked her to join them.

“Both of them asked me to join them, but I declined their request and they just left,” she said.

However, after the Korean nationals left, the drunk suspect approached and started to harass her.

The victim told Geryani to stop but he continued to harass the victim until she told Geryani that she is already married to a Korean national.

A few minutes later the suspect reportedly went amok inside the bar and he was pacified by his Libyan companion. This gave the victim and her friends a chance to flee.

The victim reported the incident to the bar security personnel who sought police assistance.

Geryani reportedly resisted arrest. He also managed to escape from the Police Station 2 but he was immediately recaptured because he was not familiar with the area.

The victim has yet to decide whether to file charges against the suspect.

“I still need to think this over. If I won’t press charges, he (suspect) might not learn his lesson,” he said.

Geryani, on the other hand, pleaded for forgiveness.

Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, IDMB chief, said that Geryani might face charges for violating Republic Act or the Anti Violence against Women and Children Act of 2004 if the victim decides to file charges. — (FREEMAN)
