JCI Week launched
CEBU, Philippines - The Junior Chamber International launched the JCI Week yesterday with several activities lined up.
Carlos Porras, Jr., the regional vice-president of JCI-Central Visayas, said they have prepared activities for the week-long event which they launched yesterday with a Thanksgiving Mass, a motorcade, and lunch here in Cebu City.
On the second day, Porras said one of the JCI chapters here, the JCI-Cebu Ink, will host the orientation of new members from all chapters of Cebu.
Porras said JCI will then hold a Bingo Night as fund-raising activity on the third day; sportsfest on the fourth day; and the launching of The Outstanding Young Men probably on the fourth day.
One of the highlights of the event will be the launching of the new project, the “Think Green Recynomics Project” to be hosted by the JCI-Cebu Mactan Channel on the following day.
Through the project, chapter president Anthony Aguhar said they will recycle materials they get from their business partners, proceeds of which will be given to their beneficiaries from kids to grown-ups and the environment.
On Saturday, JCI will hold the Youth Leadership Excellence Award where kids from elementary and high school levels are chosen to receive the award.
Another chapter president, Michael Villanueva said the contribution of JCI-Central Visayas to the society include medical and surgical missions, tree planting, concerts, fashion shows, and hosting the annual Alay Lakad among others.
“We help the government in areas that they cannot provide. Instead of complaining, why not do something about it?,” Villanueva said, saying that being a JCI member is a very challenging yet rewarding job.
JCI, born on 1947, is a worldwide federation of young professionals and entrepreneurs between ages 18 and 40.
Porras said JCI has about 250,000 members worldwide with 450 members in Central Visayas.
JCI’s mission is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. — (FREEMAN)
