Main line damage causes water service interruption
CEBU, Philippines - Thousands of people lost access to water yesterday after a main Metropolitan Cebu Water District line leak in Butuanon Bridge in Mandaue City yesterday.
Consumers in Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City and in the towns of Liloan and Consolacion went without water as early as 3 a.m. yesterday.
Charmaine Rodriguez, MCWD spokeswoman, said that as of 8:30 last night, two MCWD repair teams were already doing fabrication work to replace the damaged portion.
"Usually basta main line ang ma-damage dugay-dugay gyud na maayo. But within 24 hours paninguhaun sa MCWD nga maayo na ang damaged portion," Rodriguez said.
She said the main line burst at around 3 a.m. yesterday.
Rodriguez added that MCWD has already started dispatching water distribution trucks to some affected barangays like Looc, Cambaro, Alang-Alang, Maguikay, Umapad, Casuntingan, Centro and Ibabao, all in Mandaue City and barangay Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City.
Water refilling stations in Mandaue also saw their share of customers queuing up to buy water for drinking or bathing. — (FREEMAN)
