Father nabbed for "raping" daughter to verify virginity

CEBU, Philippines - To verify if his daughter is still a virgin, a 44-year-old father allegedly raped his 14-year-old daughter last Thursday afternoon inside their house in Sitio Pislok, Barangay Mancilang, Madridejos.

Even if the victim’s four siblings were inside the house when the crime was said to have occurred, their father reportedly managed to rape his daughter at about 4:45 in the afternoon.

The victim’s 23-year-old sister knew of what happened when the victim was crying and informed her of the incident around 7:00 in the evening.

The suspect was arrested and is now detained at the Madridejos stockade pending criminal charges in court. Prior to the incident SPO1 Antonio Balmori, Madridejos police investigator, said the victim was with her four siblings inside their house. Her older brother was busy cooking while her two younger sisters were watching television at the living room.

The suspect who was reportedly under the influence of liquor, told the victim to go inside the room and the latter obeyed.

The suspect then took off the victim’s lower garments and forced her to lie down on the bamboo bed. The father reportedly slapped the victim once and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

He then covered his daughter’s mouth with his right hand as he did the crime.

Hours later, upon learning the incident, the victim’s older sister reported to the police station.

Balmori said the suspect’s wife left the family for unknown reasons.

According to the suspect, Balmori said, he just wanted to verify if his daughter is still a virgin.

“Mao ra na iyang rason gisuwayan lang kuno niya kung virgin pa ba iyang anak kay wa na man kaayo siya katagad, (That was the only reason he gave. He just wanted to know if his daughter daughter was still a virgin.)” Balmori said.

The victim was taken to the pink room of the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and will undergo a stress debriefing with the Department of Social Welfare Development.  (FREEMAN)
