Villar calls for environmental protection

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - Former Las Pinas Representative Cynthia Villar has urged everyone to help protect the environment.

Villar, who was guest speaker in the graduation rites of the Mandaue City College, yesterday said that environmental concerns should be everyone’s concern whether you are in politics or not.

“Nasa politika man tayo o wala, our project implementation is continuous all over the country,” said Villar.

She assured that the Villar Foundation will continue its advocacy to protect the environment even if she won’t be in politics.

Villar is currently the managing director of the Villar Foundation which has been known for its program to protect the environment.

In fact, it has been recognized several times for its tree planting program.

Villar is being regarded as one of the potential candidates for senator in the coming elections. She however said that she has not decided yet whether or not to run for senator.

Although, she admitted that there is a possibility that the Nacionalista Party will be fielding her because it only has one senator under it. Senator Allan Peter Cayetano would be the lone NP candidate if she is not running.

“NP needs at least one more candidate for senator aside from Cayetano and I may fill in that need. Let us wait and see. October pa naman ang filing of candidacy,” said Villar, wife of NP chairman and Senator Manuel Villar.

The former lady legislator added that NP will not be fielding all its senatorial candidates as they may accept senatorial candidates from other political parties or NP members may coalesce with other political parties. (FREEMAN)
