Pit-os, Bacayan, Talamban getting water from MCWD
CEBU, Philippines - The Metropolitan Cebu Water District yesterday launched a project worth P54 million that now provides water to residents of three barangays in the city.
Residents of barangays Pit-os, Bacayan and Talamban will finally have potable water from MCWD.
MCWD launched the Pit-os-Bacayan-Talamban Water Supply Project yesterday through a groundbreaking ceremony and presentation of the water service project.
MCWD assistant general manager for technical services Michael Balazo said that they are excited to have the project kick-off since it will greatly benefit the residents of these areas.
Bacayan Barangay Captain Armando Borces said that currently, residents in their barangay get their water from private suppliers at P40 per cubic meter.
“This is more than double the water rates of MCWD, luoy kaayo ang mga tawo,” he said.
The project will be implemented by contractor New Culion Builders which will distribute 12,000 cubic meters of water per day to the three barangays.
Pipelaying is expected to start soon and the project is expected to be completed on Dec. 9 this year.
MCWD General Manager Armando Paredes said that water sources include MCWD’s Talamban well fields and possible private sources through joint venture contracts.
MCWD and New Culion Builders are appealing for the public’s understanding for the heavy traffic due to the road diggings.
Residents of subdivisions in these three barangays, who wish to connect to MCWD to improve their water supply, need their developer or homeowners’ association to turn over their water system to MCWD.
Developers also have the option to purchase water in bulk from MCWD.
Through this arrangement, MCWD will supply water to the subdivision but the developer will handle the distribution of water to the different households. — (FREEMAN)
