Cattle processing center eyed in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - After signing a sisterhood agreement with Masbate, the province of Cebu is being considered to become a center for processing of cattle.
Masbate Governor Rizalina Seachon-Lanete and Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia signed a Memorandum of Understanding last April 9 at the Rodeo Arena, Masbate City during the annual Rodeo Masbateño Festival.
The pact aims to promote the exchange of social, cultural and economic experiences between the two provinces. The ceremony was witnessed by the Provincial Board Members of both provinces, congressmen of Masbate and some mayors from the two provinces.
Garcia said that it was her first time in Masbate and she was touched by the warm welcome by the Masbate Provincial and City Officials. She was with Provincial Board Members Peter John Calderon and Wilfredo Caminero, Mayor Teresita Celis of Boljoon and Mayor Emelita Guisadio of Alegria.
The event was also graced by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala.
Garcia said that her coming to Masbate was considered by the Masbatenos as proof that their province is a peaceful place and going there is worthwhile. According to Garcia, going there strengthens the relationship between Cebu and Masbate.
Garcia said that Alcala talked about the symbiotic relationship between the provinces. Since Masbate is known for their cattle production, Cebu will serve as the center for processing of meat.
Garcia said that the DA is thinking of the possibility of putting up meat processing center in Cebu where cattle from Masbate can be sent to Cebu for processing. — (FREEMAN)
