Cops set to sue tribe members

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Police is set to file charges against the six Datus Alimaong Tribe members for squatting in the lot of lawyer Raul Sesbreño and illegal possession of firearms against a nephew of the lawyer who allegedly pointed a gun at tribe members.

SPO1 Mikie Espina of the Talisay City Police Station said as of yesterday they were preparing the evidence necessary for the filing of charges against the six tribe members and SFO1 Ramiro Sesbreño. The seven suspects were detained at the TCPS pending the filing of charges against them.

The six tribe members were arrested Sunday after they were discovered erecting structures in the Sesbreño property in Barangay Lawaan II. More than 40 structures in the said prime lot were demolished recently following the issuance of a court order.

The Talisay police arrested Alimaong “warriors” Bernardino Nipa, 44, of Barangay Guindaruhan, Minglanilla; Benjamin Aleonar, 57, of Barangay Cogon, Lorenzo Barazon Jr., 40, of Barangay Upper Cogon, Ramon Eldon Noel, 63, of Sitio Cogon, Barangay Camomot, all of Carcar City; Ricardo Plariza, 55, of Upper Inayawan, Cebu City; and Rissah Amahan, 37, of Barangay Lawaan II, Talisay City.

Police also arrested Ramiro after police recovered a .45 cal. pistol with eight live rounds from him.

The structures built by the said tribe members were still there as of yesterday afternoon, Espina said it is up to the Sesbreño family to have these demolished.

This lot became controversial as the demolition is seen as the reason behind the killing of Virginia Sesbreño, the wife of the lot's owner, who was ambushed along with two others. (FREEMAN)
