DOH-RN heals third batch of nurses, midwives to be deployed to LGUs in Cebu Province

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - At least 307 registered nurses and 87 midwives have been oriented on PhilHealth-related concerns before they will be deployed to hospitals and other health facilities in the various local government units in Central Visayas.

This is the third batch of nurses and midwives for deployment in the province of Cebu under the Registered Nurses for Health Empowerment and Local Service of the Department of Health (DOH-RNHeals).

Annie Lucero, DOH-7 representative to Mandaue City, Consolacion and San Remigio, said it is important for RNHeals nurses and midwives to be knowledgeable about PhilHealth because the patients or their family members may have questions about their benefits.

“They are likely to encounter questions in their places of assignment and that is why they undergo an orientation on PhilHealth-related concerns,” Lucero said.

The two-day pre-deployment orientation held at the DOH-7 office last week included a course on the National Health Insurance Program, where PhilHealth social insurance officers briefed the nurses and midwives on the key points of the program.

PhilHealth highlighted information on its membership programs, benefits and the rules on how to avail of benefits.

As part of the broad objectives of Universal Health Care (UHC), RNHeals nurses and midwives are expected to take note and report on the PhilHealth membership status of their patients.

In keeping with the goals of UHC or Kalusugan Pangkalahatan, DOH in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), organized the deployment of the third batch of RNHeals to ensure the delivery of essential health and social services to all Filipinos, especially the poor.— (FREEMAN)
