Teenager hangs self

CEBU, Philippines - Allegedly getting tired of the problems in his family, a 16-year-old boy hanged himself in a mountain barangay of Binaliw, Cebu City.

The minor was found dead hanging from a tree in a hilly portion in sitio Riverside at 3 p.m. last Saturday.

Construction worker Reynaldo Dionson, 45, was gathering firewood in the area along with his niece and nephew when they discovered the victim with a white harness rope tied around his neck and the other side to a branch of a mango tree.

He immediately called for assistance from their neighbors and relatives who then put the stiffening body down on the ground. They tried to revive the victim and then called for the police.

Investigation showed that there were no external wounds or signs of struggle found on the body that would suggest foul play, except for a ligature mark on his neck.

According to the victim’s mother, she noticed that her son was lonesome in the past few days because of problems in their family. She refused to elaborate, although she said her son had told her that he would commit suicide.

His body now lies at the Cebu Rolling Hills and will be subjected to an autopsy. — (FREEMAN)
