Reprimand leads man to suicide?

CEBU, Philippines - A 30-year-old man hangs himself inside his room in Barangay Bolinawan, Carcar City last Sunday afternoon after he was scolded by his mother for taking money.

Clint Dumo was last seen by his family around 8pm Saturday before he entered his room. They never expected it to be the last time they would see him alive.

It was Dumo’s nephew, Mark, and niece Lyra Padilla, who found him dead inside his room at 3pm the next day. Mark and Padilla, both minors, saw Dumo hanging dead from the ceiling with an electrical wire tied around his neck.

The two minors rushed to inform Dumo’s sister-in-law, Jenily Dumo, 39, who then sought help from the police.

Duno was taken to the Carcar City Emergency Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

PO1 Benjie Lastimoso of the Carcar City Police Station said that last Saturday morning, Dumo’s mother, Alice, got angry when Dumo took P1,000 from her bag without permission.

The family never knew why Dumo wanted the money. Dumo’s family reportedly asked him several times if he was using drugs but Dumo reportedly kept mum and would go straight to his room each time the matter was raised.

The family refused to have Dumo’s remains autopsied. (FREEMAN)
