- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - More than 1,000 indigent patients from different cities and municipalities in Cebu and neighboring provinces of Bohol and Negros Oriental availed of the medical assistance of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano and his sister Senator Pia Cayetano.

Records at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center made available to The Freeman showed that from August 15, 2011 up to February 29, 2012, a total of 887 patients benefited the medical assistance of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano.

On the other hand, from December 2011 up to February 2012, a total of 192 patients availed of the medical assistance of Senator Pia Cayetano.

Last year, Senator Allan Peter Cayetano signed a memorandum of agreement with the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for the medical assistance.

The same agreement also entered into between Senator Pia Cayetano and the hospital officials for the implementation of the same program.

Both the senators allocated a total of P5 million from their respected Priority Development Assistance Fund for the medical assistance program to indigent patients admitted to the hospital.

Indigent patients admitted at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center availed the program based on the medical referral provided by the office of the Cayetanos to the mayors, councilors and even barangay captains.

Rey Martinez, staff of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano, told The FREEMAN that they also provided medical referrals to different organizations interested to avail the program.

Danao City is the first to receive P100,000 worth of medical referrals, which are subject for conversion into medicines.

Vice Mayor Nito Durano made the same request with the office of the Cayetanos.

The Duranos expressed their thanks to the Cayetanos. – (FREEMAN)
