Capitol considers uniform street lighting for entire province

-

CEBU, Philippines - Uniform street lighting in the national highways throughout the entire province is now being considered by Capitol after the Provincial Development Council approved Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante’s proposal supporting the said initiative of some contiguous towns in southern Cebu.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia commended the mayors in the southeast towns starting from Carcar City down to Alcoy for such initiative.

“We hope this will spread all throughout,” Garcia said.

Garcia assured that the Capitol will shoulder the posts while the local government units will buy the paraphernalia such as lights and hardware like what the mayors from the southeast towns did.

“We encourage the other mayors to take that very nice drive in the southeast,” she said.

Garcia directed the Provincial Planning and Development Office to come up with the guidelines on the kind of fixtures that must be attached to the poles and the minimum distance between poles.

During the PDC meeting, Cesante suggested 40 meters distance between poles.

The Cebu provincial government and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI), in partnership with the 52 towns and cities of Cebu launched last January the Search for the eGWEN Highway.

This is part of the province-wide implementation of the expanded Green and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (eGWEN) Our Cebu Program which is a five-year joint development program of the Cebu Province and RAFI that aims to make Cebu an ideal place to live, work, play, invest and do business.

The Search for the eGWEN Highway is anchored on the eGWEN standards of cleanliness and sanitation; creativity, artistry, aesthetic impact and the appreciation, promotion and nurturing of culture and heritage. — (FREEMAN)
