Samsam open to Congress bid
CEBU, Philippines - He is only 27, but Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, the grandson of first district Rep. Eduardo “Eddiegul” Gullas, is open to the possibility of running for Congress next year.
“There are many options to be considered, there are many decisions to be made. But I am open to anything’” Samsam told reporters yesterday during the celebration of Women’s Day in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City
Eddiegul is serving his third and final term. But Samsam said his father, Gerard Anthony Gullas, or anybody from Alayon, a local political party founded by his grandfather, may become their candidate. Nevertheless, he said he has prepared himself for the role, despite his age and being a newbie.
“I know I’m just a neophyte. But I think I have a good track record. It’s about serving, it may not be that simple, but I don’t think there’s a problem with that,” he said.
If he will be chosen to run, Samsam may face San Fernando Mayor Anthony Canoy, who is rumored to be running for Congress under the Liberal Party ticket. Canoy has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors.
Samsam said education will always be his main priority, being someone who comes from a family of educators. He is the assistant vice president for Administration and Finance in the family-owned University of the Visayas.
If he runs for Congress and is elected he said his main thrust will be free education and sports as these are the “best way to uplift the youth.” —(FREEMAN)
