Tañada: LP will still back Davide in 2013
CEBU, Philippines - Quezon Province 3rd district Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada said the Liberal Party will still support Hilario Davide III if he will run for governor in 2013.
The legislator, who has been the national spokesman of the Liberal Party since 1992, also said he wants to run for senator in the upcoming 2013 elections.
Tañada was in Cebu yesterday as a guest speaker of a forum at the University of Cebu on the proposed freedom of information bill. He is one of its proponents.
Tañada said that being an advocate for freedom of information, it is his desire to serve in the Senate.
When the legislator was sought for comment over the announcement of former senator John “Sonny” Osmeña that he will not support Davide if he runs for governor again in 2013, Tañada said that LP will continue to support Davide.
“The LP has not changed its stand, we have supported him in the 2010 elections there’s no reason that we will not support him in 2013” Tañada said.
He said that Davide is still very much active with LP, in fact he was with the party when it celebrated its anniversary during the third week of January, and Davide is always there whenever the president comes to Cebu.
Earlier, Osmeña said that Davide failed to bring their demands to the LP national leadership for the dismissal of district engineers and city treasurers who have allegedly abused their authority.
Tañada also said although the party has yet to discuss who will compose their slate in 2013 this may be known toward the middle of the year.
When asked if they will be inviting Cebu Governor Garcia to join the LP Senate slate he said that everything has yet to be decided. (FREEMAN)
