FLI sued over car sticker policy

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - An injunction case was filed against an employee of the Filinvest Land Inc. over a car sticker policy inside the Corona Del Mar Subdivision in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City.

In the complaint he filed against engineer Antonio Lopez, former Capitol security consultant Byron Garcia asked the court to issue an injunction to stop Lopez from implementing the car sticker policy and posting security guards to enforce this policy.

“It is respectfully prayed for that due to the extreme urgency and paramount necessity on the matter at issue and to prevent grave injustice and irreparable injury as may be sustained not only by plaintiff but also by the general population of the subdivision,” the complaint read.

He likewise asked for the issuance of a 72-hour temporary restraining order.

Garcia said the complaint is intended to protect the welfare of homeowners of Corona Del Mar.

FLI is the developer of the said subdivision.

He said last February 8 Lopez issued a memorandum to homeowners, lot owners and tenants of Corona Del Mar for the implementation of the car sticker policy.

In the said memorandum, the homeowners who do not have the valid car stickers are required to leave an ID in exchange for a car pass prior to entry. The said memorandum will be implemented by the security personnel.

Garcia said the sticker policy will cause confusion among homeowners and would result to long lines since security guards have to inspect the vehicles of homeowners who do not have the sticker.

He said with the tension, he fears what happened in a subdivision in Lapu-Lapu City will happen in their subdivision.

Last January, a collector of a subdivision in Lapu-Lapu City was shot dead after an argument over a car sticker.

Garcia said FLI, through Lopez, violates the homeowners’ right to liberty by forcing them “to pay unnecessary expenditures using armed personnel to enforce the illegal sticker policy.”  (FREEMAN)
