Cops tell minors to stay home at night

CEBU, Philippines - The police are asking the public, especially minors, to refrain from leaving their homes during the wee hours of the night after the recent drive-by shooting incidents in Cebu City these past two weeks.

Since the first incident in Barangay Guadalupe last Feb. 4, a 14-year-old boy has been killed while five other were injured in five separate attacks by assailants riding a car.

“If it’s time to sleep, it’s better if they stay home and not go out,” said Cebu City Intelligence Chief Romeo Santander.

The intelligence chief assured that they are currently monitoring a group which they believe could have perpetrated the recent drive-by shooting.

Santander said parents should also monitor their children during the wee hours, ensuring that everyone is already home.

Homicide chief Sr. Insp. Jul Mohammad Jamiri said the assailants might have a grudge against members of the Bloods and Crips gangs as most of the victims claimed to be members of the said gangs.

During the second drive-by shooting last Saturday, he said they were in the V. Rama Ave. area when the perpetrators shot two minors.

Hours later, another minor was shot in Barangay Carreta allegedly by the same perpetrators.

This time the perpetrators made sure that they would no longer be identified by their victims after they removed the vehicle’s license plates, said Santander.

The second attack came after notorious robber Michael Reyes, who was held responsible for the first drive-by shooting, was killed in an ambush last week. (FREEMAN)
