-

CEBU, Philippines - For winning in the recently held Sinulog 2012, the Cebu Provincial Government Capitol has doubled the prizes received by the contingents from the cities of Carcar and Toledo.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia fulfilled her promise to give a reward to contingents from the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan who would win in the Sinulog Grand Parade and Showdown Competition.

Garcia turned over yesterday, a check amounting to P1.3 million for Carcar City and P100,000 for Toledo City. These are the same amounts both contingents received as prizes from the Sinulog Foundation, Inc.

The City of Carcar placed third in the Sinulog Based category and received P300,000. They won another P1 million for being adjudged as champion in the street dancing competition.

The Toledo National High Vocational School placed fifth in the Free Interpretation category and received the amount of P100,000.

“The province should do no less, atong tugbangan kay full support usab kita sa tagsa-tagsa gayud nga mga festivals ug mga LGUs nga naningkamot niining atong awhag pagpalambo sa atong kultura,” declared Garcia.

Garcia said it’s not a small achievement to compete and win with 50 more contingents from other provinces who are repeat performers and winners.

“Perhaps because, and I am sure it is because there is now in the Province of Cebu such appreciation for our culture and pride of place, it is now a burning passion in each and every Cebuano, nilutaw gayud over and above the rest ang ilang performances,” Garcia said.

Garcia was happy to know that the prizes shall be put as trust fund to be spent in the next competitions. (FREEMAN)
