1 killed in Danao shooting
CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot in Danao City while a woman was killed in a road accident in Carmen.
An alleged drug user was shot dead yesterday at about 4:35 in the afternoon while standing along Pio del Pilar St., Barangay Poblacion, Danao.
Godofredo Mata Villaester Jr., 52, of Highway Looc, Barangay Poblacion was shot in the head, chest and body.
The Danao police are tracing two men who shot Villaester. They were on board a red motorcycle that had no plate number and were wearing jackets and helmets.
SPO1 Bryan Batiquin, Danao City police investigator, told The FREEMAN that it’s possible the killing had something to do with drugs although they are still verifying this.
Batiquin said Villaester lived in a drug-infested area with several drug dens in Barangay Poblacion.
In another incident, a widow died after she was hit by a speeding motorcycle when she was about to cross the national highway of Barangay Dawis Norte in Carmen town about 7:10 in the evening.
Jean Cascabel, 63, died from several injuries while Cristitoto Lao, 25, of Barangay Sandayong Norte, Danao City is detained after he voluntarily surrendered to the police.
SPO2 Simplicio Gibo of the Carmen Police Station said that Lao was driving his Honda motorcycle with plate number GS-4107 towards south when he hit Cascabel.
Because of the impact, Lao also fell and was injured.
Residents rushed Cascabel to the Danao City District Hospital but the physician declared her dead.
Charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against Lao. – (FREEMAN)
