CEBU, Philippines - A man who was trying to pacify a fight was instead shot dead by one of two unidentified persons during a benefit dance in Sitio Tabay, Barangay Caputatan Norte, Medellin on Sunday morning.
Police said that the 22-year-old Tata “Omar” Ansero, of Sitio Hubahib, succumbed to a gunshot wound on his left chest.
Ansero was declared dead by Medellin Municipal Health Officer Dr. Jude Palilio.
PO2 Roselito Ortiga said Tata was with his cousins Cecile Ansero and Rando Tuñacao attending a benefit dance when the two persons arrived.
Ortiga said that one of the suspects punched Rando once which resulted to a commotion.
Tata, who saw what happened, tried to pacify and defend his cousin but the other suspect who was armed with a revolver shot Tata pointblank, hitting him on the left chest.
Rando grabbed and wrestled with the gunman. In the process, the gunman was able to fire again at Rando but missed.
Suspects then fled on foot leaving the bloody scene behind.
Ortiga suspected that the commotion may have started when the suspect got irritated after Rando accidentally hit him while they were dancing.
“Posible nakainom na ni unya nagkasinikhanay ba kaha sud sa diskohan unya nagkabingkil,” Ortiga said over a phone interview.
He said they are conducting further investigation to determine the identity of the suspects as well as the real motive of the incident if there is any.
“We are still looking kinsa’y nakaila kay dili man taga-didto kuno kay so far wa pa’y nakaila,” Ortiga said.
Police are preparing criminal charges against the two suspects. (FREEMAN)
