Two fugitives killed

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - Two fugitives from law have been killed over the weekend in separate incidents. One was killed during a shootout with the police operatives in Aloguinsan town while the other was gunned down while watching a billiard game in Carcar City.

Jiffy Cavan, of Barangay Rosario Aloguinsan, died of gunshot wounds in his chest and right leg after shooting it out with the police who were out to serve his warrant of arrest for murder.

Police Officer 2 Solomon Cardosa said Cavan was wanted in the murder of public school teacher Romeo Duran in Barangay Binlod, Argao in February 2010. According to Cardosa, his team tried to serve the arrest warrant issued by Judge Maximo Perez in Argao on Cavan but the latter fired at them using a Cal .357 revolver prompting the lawmen to return fire.

The accused was rushed to Carcar City District Hospital where he was declared dead.

Cavan was accused of killing Duran, 52, in front of his pupils in Binlod Elementary School in February last year.

The teacher was checking test papers inside his classroom when the attack took place.

Meanwhile, a suspected gun-for-hire was killed by still unidentified assailant while watching billiard game in Barangay Valencia, Carcar City Sunday night.

Edmund Satumcacal, 29, of Barangay Perrelos succumbed to two gunshot wounds in the head and in the stomach.

PO2 Rosendo Binondo said the victim was watching billiard game when an unidentified armed man appeared and shot him several times. Binondo said the victim is also wanted for murder.

The police have received information that the victim is a “hired killer” but they have yet to confirm it.  (FREEMAN)
