Boy turns self in for killing "gay"

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - A minor, who claims to be a drug addict admitted to killing a homosexual last weekend, saying that he did it because he wasn’t paid for sexual services rendered.

The 17-year-old said that he was promised by Felix Alsalde, Jr., 23, P200 for a sexual favor, but wasn’t paid.

He turned himself in to Estrella Gabiana, a barangay tanod of Buhisan, yesterday morning.

Gabiana said that it was the boy’s mother, who first got in touch with her regarding the boy’s plan to turn himself in.

Alsalde, who was bludgeoned, was found dead on a hilly portion of Sitio Olivo of Barangay Buhisan last Saturday.

The victim, who was also known as Luningning, was found with his trousers pulled down and his brassiere pulled down.

The boy told The FREEMAN that Alsalde had been a “regular client” since March of 2010 and had always paid for his services.

“Kapila na ko niya gi-gamit ma kapin sa lima na ka higayon,” he said.

On December 8, the boy said, he saw Alsalde together with Eulogio Bacarisas, 49, at a birthday party.

The suspect claimed that the victim and Bacarisas were not invited to the party, which started at 4 p.m., but gate crashed.

The boy said that they had several drinks during the party and Bacarisas left around 9 p.m. when he got drunk.

He further narrated that at around 2 a.m., Alsalde allegedly asked for a sexual favor from the boy and offered to pay him P200.

Alsalde reportedly brought him to a hilly area roughly 10 to 15 meters from where they were drinking. “Gi-dala ko niya sa ngilit nga lugar duol ra kaayo sa among gi-imnan,” he said.

After their brief session, he immediately asked the victim saying, “asa man ang kwarta?” (Where is the money?)

Alsalde reportedly refused to give him any money, which angered him forcing him to pick up a piece of wood, which he used to hit the victim’s head.

“Nag luhod man siya (victim) atubangan nako dihang ako siya gi-bunalan katulo (He was kneeling in front of me when he hit him on the head),” he said.

The boy said that when Alsalde fell on his back, he hit him several time more. “Ako pa siya gi-bunalan human siya nakuyapan,” he said.

He said he did not know what he was doing and was just shocked to see Alsalde already dead.

The suspect said that he told two of his close friends about the crime, but decided to flee to Barangay Lahug.

Gabiana went to the suspect’s hiding place yesterday morning to bring him to the Cebu City Police Office headquarters along Gorordo Ave.

Sr. Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, director of the CCPO, said that they will turn-over the suspect to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in order for the agency to determine if the boy acted with discernment when he killed Alsalde.

OUTRAGED

Members of the Lesbians, Gay, Bisexuals and Transgender Community were outraged with the incident and urged the police to do a speedy investigation on the incident.

Patrick Ty, LGBT Community Spokesperson, said that what happened to Alsalde was not an isolated incident and it is also happening in other areas of the country.

He said that they have been victims of prosecution, violence, and discrimination.

Consolacion killing

The Consolacion police are convinced that the real target in Thursday morning’s killing of a family driver was his boss.

Police said they are still trying to persuade the employer, businessman Luben Tubongbanua, to tell them the name of the person, who he had an altercation with so they can invite the person and ask him to shed light on the matter.

Sr. Insp. Wilbert Parilla, Consolacion Police chief, said that Tubongbanua filed a complaint against his former business partner for failing to pay him some amount of money.

The case was reportedly dismissed by the court and Tubongbanbua went to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to report his former partner’s failure to pay correct taxes.

“So far maglisod mi ug kuha sa name kay mura’g dili pa gyud ganahan isulti sa tag-iya,” Parilla said.

Early morning last Thursday, Joel Hallazgo, 40, the car dealer’s driver was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding men in Sitio Sun-ok, Barangay Tayud, Consolacion.

Hallazgo was driving a Toyota Vios with the businessman’s 16-year-old daughter at the backseat. The girl was on her way to school.

A bystander, Regenald Loi, 15, who was walking nearby, was injured in the incident.

He was taken to Cebu Doctor’s Hospital in Cebu City after he sustained a gunshot wound in the head.

Parilla said Loi is still in critical condition after he underwent an operation.

Police recovered five empty 9 mm shells from the crime scene.

The gunmen reportedly tailed the car and fired at close range through the heavily tinted windows.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body while his employer’s daughter, who was seated at the back portion of the car, was unharmed.

The police learned that a man went to the Car Mall located along Imus Road, Barangay Lorega, Cebu City, and was looking for Tubongbanua. Another witness also reportedly made out the face of the gunman, who did not bother to cover it.

“Possible dili ni taga-Consolacion kay confident man nga way maskara kay wala’y nakaila nila,” Parilla said. — with Ria Mae Booc/NLQ (FREEMAN)
