CEBU, Philippines - The South Road Properties was vibrant and lively last night as the “Kasadya sa SRP” officially opened.
Fireworks, presentations, booths and carousel rides welcomed hundreds of guests and is set to entertain visitors for one whole month.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, who officially opened the celebration, said that the Kasadya sa SRP is an avenue for families all over the city, including those in the southern part like Talisay City to gather and have fun.
Rama said that the month-long event is also a way to help businessmen, traders, and small and medium enterprise players.
The carnival, the food fair and “market-market” will be open until Sinulog but the firecracker traders can only sell until December 31.
Over four hectares in the SRP has been utilized for the fair. The event includes “market-market” for traders selling dry goods, another part is for food vendors selling barbecue and different kinds of food, and another for the firecrackers section. There are around 65 firecracker vendors in the area.
Rama said in a press conference yesterday that he is calling the attention of everyone, especially officials in barangays to be strict on the implementation of the firecrackers ordinance.
The ordinance mentioned was recently passed by the City Council regulating the use and sale of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
The ordinance designates SRP as the only firecracker zone in the city where firecrackers can be sold aside from certain types which are allowed to be sold in malls.
The opening of the Kasadya sa SRP started with a Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Father Mike Sarmago. A fireworks display ended the opening ceremony.
Market Administrator Racquel Arce said that there are six Kaohsiung buses available for those who would want to visit the event.
This is to address the concern of those who do not have private vehicles since there are no public transportation, aside from taxis, going to the place. — (FREEMAN)
