CEBU, Philippines - Jealousy is said to be the reason behind the death of two people in Moalboal and Badian towns last Sunday.
In Moalboal, a 27-year-old woman was stabbed by her live-in partner in front of their three children inside her house in Sitio Pahulayan, Barangay Bugho about 3pm.
About four hours later, a man who was under the influence of liquor died after he was stabbed “accidentally” by his live-in partner during a commotion inside their house in Barangay Malabago, Badian.
In the Moalboal incident, Bernadeth Bagasa died at the Rural Health Unit where she was taken due to a stab wound on her stomach. Her live-in partner, Alberto Celestial, 28, was also taken to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for stabbing himself.
Investigation showed that it was Celestial who allegedly started the fight for suspecting that Bagasa was having an affair with another man. Bagasa had denied the same.
Carried away by his emotions, Celestial went to the kitchen, took a knife, and stabbed Bagasa on the stomach. Afterwards, Celestial also stabbed his right side.
PO1 Melvin Delica said Bagasa was carrying their three-year-old child when Celestial stabbed her. Information gathered by the police revealed that Celestial has since been suffering from nervous breakdown.
Meanwhile, in the Badian incident, Archie Mari was allegedly stabbed by his live-in partner, Mildred Cedeño, 25, also in the middle of a fight.
Mari who succumbed to a stab wound on his abdomen was declared dead by Dr. Urduha Espiritu, Badian Municipal Health Officer.
Cedeño is now detained at the Badian police stockade and will be facing criminal charges in court.
PO1 Randy Balansag said Mari was suspecting that Cedeño was having an affair with another man in Barangay Poblacion where she was working as a stay-out house help.
Balansag said it started when Cedeño saw Mari drinking with his friends while she was heading home with their seven-year-old daughter.
They then headed home together during which Mari allegedly started the arguing with Balansag and suddenly hit their daughter with an empty plastic container.
When they arrived home, Cedeño started preparing dinner when Mari allegedly took a knife and tried to stab the woman. Cedeño was not hit and in the process even reportedly got hold of knife and accidentally stabbed her live-in partner in the abdomen.
Further investigation revealed that Cedeño had gone to the police station twice accusing Mari of physical injuries.
“Kaduha na siya nagpa-blotter sa estasyon kay tungod sa iyang bana,” Balansag said.
Mari left her four children with their grandparents who also live in the same barangay. (FREEMAN)
