Truck kills two persons

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Two co-workers were killed after they were run over by a ten-wheeler truck the other night.

Christine Nadela, 27, and her friend and officemate Niño Gerale, 25, were killed instantly after they were run over by a ten-wheeler truck on the National Highway in Barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla town, around 9 p.m. last Saturday.

PO1 Evie Espina said that Nadela, a resident of the place, and Gerale, of Barangay Tungkop, were about to cross the road when they saw a multicab about to pass.

According to Gerale’s uncle, the victims are close friends and were probably preparing for their Christmas party yesterday in Fuente Osmeña, Cebu City, where the two of them work. Gerale works as an IT technician, he said.

Espina said it was not yet determined what Nadela’s job was because her family has not reported to the police station yet.

Espina further narrated that the multicab stopped to let the victims pass and the two crossed the road, they were then hit by the Isuzu Carrier that overtook the multicab.

Both suffered serious head injuries.

Truck driver, Panfilo Roble, 55, a resident of Poblacion, Carmen town, went to the police station and quickly surrendered after he saw a mob was after him. He said he was on his way from Cebu City bound for Naga town.

Residents rushed the victims to the Minglanilla District Hospital but they both arrived dead.

A case for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide awaits the suspect, who is now detained at the Minglanilla Police Station detention cell.

The respective families of the victims are still preparing for their burial, Espina said. The truck is now impounded at their police station. — (FREEMAN)
