CEBU, Philippines - The Province of Cebu is among the four local government units in the country conferred with a citation by the general headquarters of the National Bureau of Investigation on the occasion of its 75th year anniversary yesterday.
The other LGUs are Quezon City in Metro Manila represented by Mayor Herbert Bautista, the Municipality of Javier in Leyte Province represented by Mayor Leonardo Javier Jr. and Leyte Province represented by Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla.
“It’s a citation issued to the governor for her invaluable help, assistance and cooperation to the NBI,” said Capitol consultant Rory Jon Sepulveda who represented Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia in Manila.
The Province of Cebu recently extended to the NBI the offer to build its new regional headquarters in a province-owned property in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
Garcia and NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula already signed the memorandum of agreement for the construction of the said office.
Garcia made the offer last April during the visit of Gatdula and other NBI officials to the Capitol where the need for the NBI to transfer to a more spacious area was discussed.
They said the new building for the NBI-7 will serve as a decent home befitting a law enforcement agency that plays a major role in keeping Cebu safe.
The construction is set to start anytime before this year ends.
Garcia and other Capitol officials also lauded the NBI for the arrest of Bella Ruby Santos, the accused in the abduction and killing of six-year-old Ellah Joy Pique.
