PRO-7 honors ex-commander on retirement

CEBU, Philippines - Police Regional Office-7 honored yesterday one of its former commanders in time for his retirement from the police service.

Former PRO-7 director Lani-O Nerez was given retirement honors by the command where he spent most of his years in the police service.

During the ceremony, Nerez vows to continue serving the country in other capacity as a private citizen.

“Bisan nakaabot na ko sa finish line, my loyalty will always be for the people,” he said.

He admitted receiving several offers from various sectors even before his retirement day yesterday.

“Bisan asa, basta makapadayon ta sa panirbisyo. Naa nay mi-tawag nako nga mi-offer og work and in fact, mi-padala na pud ko sa akong bio-data,” Nerez said.

He however said that he will spend sometime with his family first, whom he was very thankful for the support, before taking another job.

Nerez recalled that it was in Central Visayas where he learned, grew and discovered the beauties of being of service to the community.

“Dire nako nakit-an ang camaraderie sa mga kauban ug suporta sa mga tawo ug tanang bukid dire sa Cebu ako na na-adto apil na sa Bohol ug Negros,” he said.

Nerez challenged his successors to “always think out of the box, so that peace and order will be maintained and improved.”

Among the positions held by Nerez in Cebu were Cebu City Police Office director, and regional operations and plans division chief. (FREEMAN)
