CTU marks centennial

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Technological University (CTU) will start its centennial celebration on November 10 with various events to commemorate its humble beginnings and achievements.

CTU vice president Victor Villaganas yesterday said the celebration will be on November 22 but within this week, they lined up activities such as the opening of the school museum and honoring the alumni.

Since its establishment in 1901, the school had changed its name twice. Its previous name was the Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST).

Before the school's name was changed to CSCST with the passage of Batas Pambansa 412, it was known as the Cebu School of Arts and Trades.

CSCST was the result of the integration of various arts, trade, and fishery schools in the province of Cebu.

CTU is considered a center of excellence for technology education as it is ISO 9001:2008 certified by the Anglo Japanese American Registrars.

Its main campus, which is located at the corner of R. Palma Street and M. J. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City, has an area of 3.7 hectares.

CTU has campuses in the towns of Argao, Barili, Carmen, Daanbantayan, Moalboal, San Francisco, and Tuburan, and the city of Danao.

CTU has level II accreditation from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, and is level IV among state universities and colleges.

The curricular offerings of CTU are classified into College of Advanced Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, and College of Technology.

Evening opportunity trade classes are also offered. — (FREEMAN)
