CEBU, Philippines - At most 35 sitios in 18 barangays of Bantayan town will have street lights before Christmas following the release of the P8.7 million budget from Fourth District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon.

Salimbangon said the amount from his Priority Development Assistance Fund is intended for the electrification project and installation of the street lights.

“Among target before Christmas, duna na’y suga ang kadalanan aning 35 ka-sitios,” he said.

Salimbangon said an initial budget of P6 million was also earmarked for the electrification early next year of 40 other sitios in the mainland of his district. He said he already filed for an additional budget to light up all the streets in his district.

Salimbangon said the supplier is scheduled to deliver next week the materials needed for the project. This includes electrical wires, transformers, and posts among others.

The Bantayan Electric Cooperative (BANELCO) is in-charge of the electrical connection, he said.

Salimbangon said some of the sitios were already installed with electrical posts (but no electrical connection yet) courtesy of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, which he hoped to finish.

“We will also ask the governor for additional nga mga poste para modaku pa among agi sa electrification,” he said.

He called on the barangay captains to assist in the installation of the streetlights.

“Ato sila hangyuon na mutabang ug kawot sa yuta. Para masugdan dayon ang trabaho og mahuman dayon,” Salimbangon said. – (FREEMAN)
