Court resets trial for son who killed his mother

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - The absence of the witness has forced Regional Trial Court Judge Gilbert Moises to reset on November 21 the scheduled presentation yesterday of the first prosecution witness in the parricide case against a nursing student who killed his own mother.

Moises ordered the resetting of the trial after assistant city prosecutor Ricky Jones Macabaya failed to present his first witness against Christian “Lucky” Dalangin.

Macabaya said his witness did not appear despite proper notice. The court however is giving the prosecution the chance to present its witness on November 21.

Dalangin is accused of killing his mother Rubirose Tenchavez in August. He earlier admitted slitting his mother’s throat twice and buried her body inside their house but entered a not guilty plea during arraignment. His lawyer Leah Cruz of the Public Attorney’s Office denied during the pre-trial conference of the case the extra-judicial confession executed by her client before the National Bureau of Investigation following his arrest.

The defense said they will be presenting three witnesses while the prosecution will have seven. – (FREEMAN)
