CEBU, Philippines -  Operatives of the Cebu Provincial Police Office who were responsible in the arrest of a nurse for selling P1.8 million worth of Nubain are set to receive an award from the Senate.

The award will be given by Senate majority leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on November 14 at the CPPO headquarters. The awarding will highlight the observance of the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week.

The awardees are Supt. Henry Biñas, chief of the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch, PO3 Cesar Pandong, PO3 Carlo Veloso, PO2 Frederick Ybañez, PO2 Albert Luardo, and PO1 Esmeraldo Quillosa all members of the PIDMB.

Team was responsible in the arrest of Leonarda Lim, 51, of Lower Pakigne, Minglanilla during a buy-bust operation in Talisay City last month.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 6,000 ampules of “Nalbuphine Hydrochloride” otherwise known as Nubain, a painkiller which is now classified as dangerous drugs. The seizure was considered to be the biggest in Cebu so far.

Lim is also considered the biggest supplier of Nubain in Metro Cebu. She was already charged for violation of sections 5 and 11 of the Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Sotto was responsible in the reclassification of Nubain into dangerous drugs during his stint as chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board.

Biñas is thankful that Sotto has recognized their effort. “Pasalamat ko nga nakita nila ug na-appreciate among trabaho,” he said. — (FREEMAN)
