Man stabs neighbor dead

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old man was stabbed dead by his neighbor who was having a drinking session in Sitio Dao, Barangay Tubod, Toledo City on Tuesday afternoon.

Alexander Son, a native of Bansalan, Davao del Sur, allegedly had a fistfight with the suspect Joel Diaz, 43 before he was stabbed dead.

Police believed Diaz may have used an ice pick to stab Son who was wounded on his back and his left hip.

Though he was rushed to the Toledo City Hospital, Son did not make it there.

PO3 Benedicto Bobiles Jr., Toledo City police investigator, discovered that Son arrived at the store where Diaz and his friends had a drinking session.

Bobiles said both Son and Diaz, who reportedly had previous personal grudges, confronted each other which resulted to a fistfight.

The owner of the store who saw the commotion interrupted them and told them to find another place where they could continue their fight prompting both to step out and continue their fistfight.

Bobiles said Son possibly did not notice that Diaz was armed until the suspect who was allegedly about to be defeated, used the hard object believed to be an ice pick. Son reportedly saw the weapon and tried to escape but Diaz chased him and hit him thrice.

Based on the autopsy results, Bobiles said Son had three stab wounds including one on his right arm but his fatal wounds were the ones on his hip and back that led to his death.

“Ice pick man gyud akong tan-aw ani kay lingin nga gagmay ang iyang samad dili man sad sa kutsilyo,” he said.

Diaz immediately fled on foot after the incident. The authorities are conducting manhunt operations against him.

They are also coordinating with the victim’s family in Davao for the filing of a criminal case against Diaz. - THE FREEMAN
