Former CCPO chief heads airport police

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - Former Cebu City Police Office Chief Police Senior Superintendent Melvin Gayotin is the new head of the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority Police Department.

A former official of the Philippine National Police who retired from the service and was recently assigned in Western Visayas, Gayotin took his oath as the new Division Manager of the MCIAA Police Department yesterday noon before Airport General Manager Nigel Paul Villarete.

The oath taking ceremony was also witnessed by members of the Regional Management Council-7 who had a meeting at the airport to discuss the preparations for All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day.

Villarete said the MCIAA hired Gayotin because of his ability to lead the airport police department.

Interviewed by reporters after he took his oath of office, Gayotin promised to improve the services of the airport police saying that one of Villarete’s directives was for him to clean the image of the airport police from several accusations.

Gayotin admitted there are accusations that some airport policemen were engaged in extorting money from those transacting at the airport.

Villarete admitted that there are accusations of wrongdoings against some airport policemen.

However, Villarete admitted that no formal complaints have been filed against them.

According to Villarete, the Office of the Visayas Ombudsman is also looking into these complaints, but the problem is no one filed formal complaints.      - (THE FREEMAN)
