2 men shot in weekend incidents; 1 dead
CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding men in Barangay Basak-Pardo late last Saturday night.
The man, whose identity the police are still trying to determine, succumbed to a lone gunshot wound on his back. None of the residents in the area could recognize him.
Police said he has tattoos covering both arms, stands about 5’3” tall, brown-skinned and slim built. He was wearing a yellow shirt and black and white colored short pants when he was found. He was also covered in a plastic wrap that he might have used to shield himself from the rain.
The homicide police said the victim was being chased by two men on a blue motorcycle past 10pm along Tagunol Street. When the suspects caught up with the victim, the man riding in pillion pulled out a gun and shot him on the back before speeding off.
Policemen who responded to the incident found the victim lifeless on a vacant lot along the road.
In an earlier incident at 7:30 pm, a senior high school student was shot and was wounded by an unidentified assailant in front of his school in Barangay Inayawan. Junaro Antes, 27, was hit on the neck.
SPO4 Alex Dacua of the city police homicide section said the victim has just got out of the gate of the school after attending night classes at a night high school along F. Jaca St. when the assailant, who was waiting outside, shot him without any word.
Wounded, the Antes still reportedly managed to run but he slumped on the road a few meters away.
A scavenger helped the victim and tanods of Barangay Inayawan rushed him to the Cebu City Medical Center.
Police are eyeing personal grudge as the motive in the shooting. — (FREEMAN)
