CCPO asks City Hall to grant requested radio handsets

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director Melvin Ramon Buenafe asked City Hall to grant their request for additional radio handsets for their motorcycle-riding cops.

According to him, the additional radio handsets should have been given along with the 44 motorcycles that the City Hall turned over to the police recently.

The said radio handsets will serve as their link to the policemen onboard their motorcycles while they are roving the city streets. “Di man pwede tawgan ang mga pulis nga nag drive maglisod sila we really need those radios,” he said.

He further clarified that when he presented the said project, the radio handset was part of their request to propel the project to its full efficiency. The director however understands the process saying they can wait.

The appeal came after Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama questioned the police’s allegedly late response to Tuesday’s shooting incident where a councilman was ambushed in Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City.

After September’s 1.2 million botched robbery inside a mall at the Fuente Osmeña area, City Hall turned over XRM motorcycles in order to increases the police force’s crime-fighting capabilities. The said project was conceptualized over a year ago but was finally realized just recently. In fact, CCPO conducted a meeting where they discussed the full implementation of the Police Integrated Patrolling System (PIPS) in the city. PIPS is the foundation of the CCPO motor cops.

The system was developed by no less than the new Police Regional Office (PRO) -7 director Marcelo Garbo Jr.

Since September 28 when he assumed his position, the new PRO-7 director has constantly called for the full implementation of PIPS in the entire region to decrease criminality.

The said system has also been acclaimed and implemented in other PROs in the country as an effective tool against criminality.

Now under his stewardship, Garbo wants PIPS to be a vital part of their campaign against criminality in all police detachments throughout the region after PIPS was not strictly implemented in the past. — (FREEMAN)
