Daan signs own travel order

CEBU, Philippines - On his second day as acting Governor of Cebu, Provincial Board Member Julian Daan still confines himself signing travel orders for Capitol officials including his own.

Daan yesterday signed the travel orders for 14 PB members including himself to attend the Provincial Board Members’ League of the Philippines regional assembly next month in Cebu City.

The PBMLP-7 assembly will be held at the Diamond Suites Hotel on October 13-15.

The assembly will tackle the exploitation of women and children with a theme: “Alarming New Trends in the Commercial Exploitation of Women and Children and Implications on National Policies and Local Legislation.”

During his first day as acting Governor, Daan also limits himself in signing travel orders for two Capitol department heads. Aside from signing travel orders, Daan also entertained yesterday afternoon the visiting officials of Sarangani Province led by Vice Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon and not Governor Miguel Rene Dominguez as earlier reported.

The group was interested to know about the rural tourism program of the Province of Cebu dubbed as, “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo.”

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s chief of staff, Elizabeth Francia, said that the officials dropped by the office for a supposed courtesy call to Garcia. The group also did not have prior appointment with Garcia before leaving to South Korea with Vice Governor Agnes Magpale to attend the Inter-Islands Tourism Policy (ITOP) Forum.

Daan told reporters that he was already relieved from uneasiness in assuming acting governor for the first time after two days.

He said that no major concerns being endorsed to him for action except the administrative matters of signing travel orders. Daan signed the travel orders of Provincial Health Officer Dr. Cristina Giango and Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Mary Rose Vincoy for Manila the other day to attend the declaration of the islands of Camotes and Malapascua as Rabies Free Zone.

Francia confirmed that no documents or urgent matters that have been endorsed by the office of the governor to Daan for action. Daan will be the acting vice governor tomorrow when Magpale will be acting governor upon her return from South Korea.

Magpale will be back in the country ahead of Garcia because the latter will proceed for her personal trip to the United States until October 9. (FREEMAN)
