Pa wants lesser penalty for son who killed ma

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - The father of the 25-year-old nursing student who admitted killing his mother wanted his son to enter into a plea bargaining agreement prompting the Regional Trial Court to defer yesterday’s supposed arraignment of the parricide case.

RTC Judge Gilbert Moises allowed the arraignment to be postponed until tomorrow to give time to the prosecutors as well as the complainants to consider the offer of the father of accused Christian Lucky Dalangin for his son to plead guilty to a lesser offense.

The sister of the victim Rubirosa Tenchavez, who requested anonymity, told reporters that the father of the accused wanted a lesser penalty for his son.

“He liked that the sentence of imprisonment of Dalangin will be eight years but I have to consult first with the brothers of Dalangin,” the sister of the victim said.

Defense lawyer Leah Cruz of the Public Attorney’s Office refused to talk about the alleged plea bargain offer from the father of her client.

Dalangin admitted killing his mother in August 23 at 1:00 a.m. inside their house along M. Gochan St. in Barangay Mambaling.

The accused said he came home drunk and prepared noodles for snacks when his mother came down from her room and started berating him.

“She confronted me about some broken tiles and accused me of destroying her computer which I did not do,” Dalangin said.

According to Dalangin, he went to the kitchen, got a knife and slit the throat of his mother twice.

He said because of panicked after he committed the crime he decided to ask the help of his friend, Carmelo Echavirria. However, Echavirria left him when the latter saw the lifeless body of the victim.

Dalangin said at 6:00 a.m. he went out of their house and asked a certain Randy, their neighbor, to dig a hole inside their house’s stockroom for a septic tank.

Dalangin said after Randy dug a 4-feet hole he dragged his mother and buried her in the hole and took her jewelry. He said he pawned the bracelet of his mother in the amount of P26,496.

The victim’s body was later recovered by the National Bureau of Investigation. (FREEMAN)
