Tom in hospital following chills

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña was rushed to the hospital past noon yesterday after experiencing chills while en route to Barangay Taptap to meet with the barangay captains of all mountain barangays of the city.

Osmeña, 63, was still confined at the Chong Hua Hospital as of last night although he said he is already feeling well.

Osmeña said they were heading to Taptap when he suddenly felt cold and asked his driver to lower the air-conditioning unit of the vehicle.

Even as the temperature rose he continued to experience chills and soon started shaking.

The doctors gave Osmeña antibiotics that stopped his chills. He was well enough to dine with reporters who visited him in the hospital after ordering lechon.

Osmeña said he might be confined for two more days.

His wife Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña who was in Macau yesterday, was already informed about what happened and is expected to arrive in Cebu City today.

Some barangay officials who are close allies with Osmeña visited him in the hospital after they learned of the incident.

Osmeña was also hospitalized in 2008 because of cancer on his urinary bladder and later underwent an operation at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Although his attending physicians removed his urinary bladder, the mayor has been diagnosed already as totally cured. —/BRP   - (THE FREEMAN)
