Telecom wires cause traffic jam

CEBU, Philippines -  Traffic jammed and vehicles nearly hit a telecom post along Gorordo Avenue in Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City after a Rough Riders bus hit the sagging communication wires around 7 o’clock yesterday morning.

The speeding Rough Riders bus with plate number GVL 653 is the fourth vehicle that got snagged by the communication wires of mostly PLDT and Globe lines.

The post fell but passersby were spared when it got tangled in the wires and did not hit the ground.

Mario Timagos, security guard of BDO Gorordo Avenue branch, told The FREEMAN that while he was on duty the other night, he first noticed a truck with a backhoe hitting the communication wires around 11 in the evening.

Timagos even got the plate number and name of the construction firm that accidentally hit the cable wires. He revealed it was a truck of Virlo Construction Firm with plate number RFF 614.

A few minutes later, a container van again hit the cable wires. He said this resulted to a brownout which affected the neighboring houses.

“Dali ko nakatawag og VECO kay nahadlok ko nga naapil ang linya nila pero ang naapektohan ang linya sa PLDT ug GLobe,” Timagos said.

Around two a.m. yesterday, another truck with plate number YJA 615 again hit the cable wires which prompted PLDT personnel to put up an early warning device to caution passing vehicles.

“Pagbutang nanglakaw naman to taga PLDT unya wa na man ang mga tanod sa Kamputhaw. Ang nagsige og dala sa traffic mga estambay na. Siguro wa dayon motuo ang driver sa Rough Riders ug wa pud makabantay nga nag yonyon na ang wire mao nga nasangit ug natiwasan gyud ang poste nga maayo pagkabali. Suwerte nga nasangit sa laing mga wiring maong way nadat-ogan nga sakyanan,” Timagos said.

The incident yesterday morning caused a traffic jam as members of the Apas Emergency Response Team (AERT) immediately cleared the communication facilities’ sagging wires. — (FREEMAN)
