Cebu reporters elect officers

CEBU, Philippines - Presidents and vice presidents of the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists Inc. elected their new set of officers yesterday.

Elias Baquero, who is the president of the Regional Journalists in Cebu (REJOICE), was elected to his sixth consecutive term as the president of the CFBJ Inc. during the meeting yesterday afternoon.

The meeting the election of officers is an annual activity since the creation of the CFBJ Inc. in 2000. Yesterday also marked the start of Cebu’s Press Freedom Week.

Baquero said he is lining up a series of projects and programs for his next year of incumbency. One of the projects he will be introducing is how to uplift the living conditions of the members of the working media.

Baquero said that CFBJ Inc. is considered as the biggest media federation in Southern Philippines, which is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission under Registration No. CN200529173.

CFBJ is an umbrella organization of 11 other media groups in Cebu namely REJOICE, City Hall Association of Reporters in Media (CHARM), Capitol Association of Reporters in Tri-Media (CART), Cebu Economic Journalists Association (CEJA), Sports Correspondents (SCORE), Defense and Police Press Corp. (DEPP), Media Association for Life, Liberty, Equality and Truth (MALLET), Media in Cebu South (MICS), Association of Reporters in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City for Integrity, Truth and Equality (ARMALITE), LENS composed of Cebu’s photojournalists and Entertainment Group (E-GROUP).

Elected as vice president of CFBJ was Oscar Pineda of CART; voted secretary was Liv Campo MICS; treasurer, Joseph Tubilan of MALLET; auditor, Flor Perolina of ARMALITE and Board of Directors – Gabby Malagar (SCORE); Gregg Rubio (CART); Ryan Mark Borinaga (E-Group); Rene Borromeo (CHARM); Norman Mendoza (ARMALITE); Chito Aragon (DEPP); Alex Badayos (LENS) and Irene Sino-Cruz (CEJA). — (FREEMAN)
