Man shot dead, another hurt in Talisay Shootings

CEBU, Philippines - A suspected robber was killed while a murder suspect was injured in separate shooting incidents in Talisay City yesterday afternoon.

Violeto Caburnay, 42, of sitio Kagang Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City died on the spot after a certain “dumbo” shot him.

Caburnay and the suspect were allegedly playing “tong-its”, a card game, when a heated argument erupted between the two resulting to the shooting incident.

Lasque said that the witnesses heard the suspect supposedly saying after shooting the victim, “Kun manulis gani ka bay ayaw ko og unaya.”

Meanwhile, a certain Tata “Rene Chan” Barangan, 32, of Litmon, Barangay Poblacion was injured after he was also shot by Renante “Pasyo” Mabini, 36, of Barangay Lagtang, Talisay City.

The incident happened at sitio Marimar at around 1:30 p.m. yesterday. He sustained gunshot wound in his left thigh.

The victim was rushed to Talisay District Hospital but was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Barangan is reportedly a suspect in the murder of Teresita De Guzman in March 2009. (FREEMAN)
