Policeman punched in Asturias

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A policeman was punched by two persons whom he tried to pacify during a benefit dance at the basketball court of Barangay Tubod, Asturias on Monday.

Police Officer 2 Emmanuel Blones received blows from Frane Capangpangan, 22 and Jirky Norquillo, 25, both of Barangay Manguiao.

Both are detained at the Asturias police stockade after they were arrested by the tanods of barangay Tubod during the commotion.

A case of direct assault upon a person in authority was filed against them at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Dandreb Lambo said Capangpangan and Norquillo both attended the benefit dance and were apparently under the influence of liquor. They had a heated argument.

“Nagkabangi na to diha kay puro na man hubog unya isog na kaayo,” said Lambo.

Norquillo and Capangpangan’s altercation prompted the people to scamper towards different directions and the disco was stopped.

Blones allegedly approached the two along with barangay tanods and introduced himself as a police officer as he tried to pacify them.

But instead of submitting themselves to the police officer, both allegedly punched Blones which led the barangay tanods to arrest them.

Atty. Julius Ompad, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch, told The FREEMAN they have not yet received any report from Inspector Danilo Santillan, chief of the Asturias Police Station, regarding the incident.

Ompad said that if the incident happened in the performance of duty, they will let Blones file a case against the two but if there are lapses committed, the PIDMB will conduct an investigation.

“Magpaabot ta og further directive or if kinahanglan ba i-investigate base sa report sa hepe,” he said.— (FREEMAN)
