CCPO rounds up 52 suspected criminals: Motorcop Response Unit composed of motorcycle-riding SWAT launched
CEBU, Philippines - At least 52 suspected criminal elements in Cebu City have been rounded up by the police during a week-long anti-crime saturation drive.
Cebu City Police Office chief Melvin Ramon Buenafe said the success of their anti-crime campaign which started last September 5 proved to be an effective way to foster peace and order in the city.
Buenafe said that during the saturation drive they have arrested 52 persons for various violations who are now under custody of the various units under the CCPO.
Buenafe vowed to continue the operations to prevent criminal elements from committing crimes especially that they have recently received a capability boost with the donation of 44 units of motorcycles from the City Hall.
The XR200 motorcycles will be used by the newly launched motorcycle-riding-SWAT to combat motorcycle-riding-criminals in the city.
According to Buenafe, through these new innovations, the police can quickly respond to any criminal incidents involving motorcycle-riding-criminals.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is hoping that the criminal activities in the city will be reduced with the new motorcycle-riding SWAT patrolling in the crime prone areas.
Rama turned over the brand new motorcycles yesterday to Buenafe and Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) chief Arnel Banzon.
Buenafe assured Rama that the motorcycles can be an effective tool for the police to reduce the crimes by patrolling crime-prone areas, particularly during night time.
The motorcycle-riding policemen will be known as the Motorcop Response Unit. - (THE FREEMAN)
