31 companies to donate lampposts, streetlights for beautification project

CEBU, Philippines - At least 31 companies have committed to provide the provincial government decorative lampposts and streetlights to beautify Osmeña Boulevard starting from the Capitol until the Fuente Osmeña Circle.

Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre said the companies will provide the lampposts and street lights for free. The names of the companies, however, will remain confidential at this point.

“Duna sila’y comments nga sila nalipay nga naa ta gibuhat to beautify the city nga gipaapil sila. Generally they are committed sa programa sa atong gobernador,” Pelayre said.

Pelayre said no amount has been discussed but the companies reportedly assured that the lampposts and street lights will be of good quality. A supplier from China will reportedly provide the lampposts and streetlights to the 31 companies.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia offered to beautify the one-kilometer stretch of road from the Capitol building to the Fuente Osmeña junction after the Cebu City government asked help from the province.

Following the offer, at least nine contractors signified interest to help the Province, all on their own expense. They are WTG Construction, Duros Construction, Socor, OR Sarmiento, Pragmatic, Barsteel, Rovilla Construction, Maningo Construction and Supreme ABF. They have been implementing several projects in the province.

The contractors were then assigned to specific blocks that they can improve in accordance with specifications of the committee.

A uniform “architectural ambiance” will be adopted for the sidewalks and center islands of the entire stretch of Osmeña Boulevard from the Capitol building to the Plaza Independencia. The overall plan of the project includes fixing the sidewalk cracks and the path will be transformed into a brick walkway.

Both sides of the road will be lined with decorative lampposts to be embellished in the center island.

Garcia initiated the meeting of the contractors followed by the suppliers of lamp posts and street lamps. —(FREEMAN)
