Companies urged: Invest in security

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Society for Industrial Security (PSIS)–7 has urged Cebu-based companies to seriously invest in security following the recent robbery incident in Cebu City wherein five people were killed including two security guards.

Atty. Michelle Palmorez, president of PSIS-7, said that security should be seen as a vital part of a company’s growth and success.

“It will make their business more productive with premier security,” she said.

Palmorez said security in Cebu is very low and is not taken seriously by most companies, adding that companies are not even investing with security at all.

“Security should be given importance, it should not be last,” Palmorez said.

Amidst recent threats to local companies and business, PSIS is campaigning to professionalize all the security aspects by providing trainings and proper coordination with authorities like in other countries.

Palmorez also stressed that more complicated security measures entail more financial investment which she believed is better than loosing to robbers.

She said that guards are just part of a community which should help combat numerous threats to any institution or community.

“It’s important that we cooperate with each other, even the civilians have to give information to help and support authorities,” she said.

According to her, small businesses can also invest in security through technology which will surely help protect their companies.

“You don’t need manpower, but if you have security equipment and quick response of agencies concern, small business can be able to secure their establishment without spending too much,” Palmorez said, adding that manpower security is just one aspect.

Palmorez even asks private citizen to take simple initiatives to secure their own houses by installing security measures to prevent intruders into their homes.

PSIS members are in Cebu City for a two-day convention with the theme “Security: Improving Productivity, Maximizing Growth.”

The convention has gathered several security exhibitors from local and overseas bringing the latest security technology equipments.

PSIS showcases dressings and other technological initiatives from the latest armored car technology to the smallest close circuit cameras that the industry has offered.

The group is the largest organization of security professionals and practitioners in the Philippines. Their members provide protection to the people, various organizations such as banks, tourism facilities, aerospace and maritime industries, and countless other domestic and foreign corporations and business institutions. — (FREEMAN)
