- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A rape case is set to be filed today against a person with physical disabilities who allegedly raped his 27-year-old neighbor last Friday afternoon in Barangay Cambuhawi, Balamban.

Criminal charges will be filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against trisikad driver Teofisto Algabre, 47, who has a live-in partner.

The suspect who is now detained at the Balamban Police Station stockade was arrested at the Poblacion Public Market during the hot pursuit operations conducted by the police.

Senior Police Officer 1 Julius Obañana narrated that the victim was alone in their house when Algabre barged in and raped her.

The victim was allegedly preparing their dinner while her mother left her to do some errands. Algabre reportedly arrived and threatened her, holding both her arms.

Police investigation revealed that the victim tried to fight back and resist but her petite frame was overpowered by the strength of the suspect.

“Paggunit sa suspect gikabay-an diritso, bisan buktot kusgan man,” Obañana said.

Algabre tried to escape but residents who saw him inside a store at the market immediately reported to the police.

The mother of the victim alleged that Algabre has been acting like a sexual maniac.

She further alleged that there could be other victims who failed to file charges against Algabre.

The victim will be taken to the pink room of the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center today for medical examination before the case will be filed. — (FREEMAN)
